Ramon Enrich (* 1968 in Igualada , Spain ) is a Catalan painter and sculptor .

Life

Ramon Enrich's artistic interest was aroused by his father, a knitwear manufacturer with a talent for drawing , music and architecture , which he pursued autodidactically. This artistic and musical environment encouraged Enrich from childhood.

He studied fine arts in Barcelona , as well as history (without a degree) and graphics . At the end of the 1980s he received several grants for work stays and exhibitions abroad. For a long time he was a guest fellow at the Mousonturm cultural center in Frankfurt am Main and for several work stays in Berlin . A great admirer of Donald Judd , he went to Marfa, Texas, USA, where Judd lived, in 1988. He exhibited the paintings he created during his stay in Texas in the Chinati Foundation and the Donald Judd Foundation. He then traveled to Los Angeles , where he met Ed Ruscha and worked with David Hockney . He later settled in New York for a while , where he assisted Julian Schnabel's studio .

Enrich had numerous exhibitions in Barcelona, Amsterdam , Hong Kong , New York, Brussels and Paris . He currently lives and works in Igualada near Barcelona.

The painterly work

There are a number of recurring themes in Enrich's paintings that deal with the relationship between architecture and landscape. He paints large, deserted-looking scenarios with some architectural and plant elements. He is particularly interested in simplifying and depicting the essentials of things. Large canvases with motionless, mysterious choreographies, based on a reality that obscures geometry and metaphysics. He plays with a multitude of symbolic characters: large typographies, the cypress tree, factory buildings, water reservoirs, cisterns, ramps, baroque gardens. His paintings are timeless and are somewhat close to surrealism. Sometimes they reflect an ironic approach to landscape, at the same time they tie in with the romantic tradition of the genre.
