Quim Monzó

Quim Monzó (born March 24, 1952 in Barcelona ) lives in Barcelona and is considered an important Spanish author of the Catalan language and “one of the most provocative voices in contemporary European literature”.

Life

Monzó initially worked as a war correspondent and traveled to Vietnam , Cambodia , Thailand , Kenya and Northern Ireland , among others . After that, he switched to fiction . His first novel L'udol del griso al caire de les clavegueres was published in 1976. A year later, his first anthology of short stories ( Self Service ) followed. By 2007 the author had published two novels, six volumes of short stories and several collections of essays.

In addition to his literary work, Monzó also worked as a comic artist and graphic designer, screenwriter. He wrote for radio and television and worked as a translator and songwriter. In translating his own works into Spanish, Quim Monzó collaborates with the renowned Spanish novelist Javier Cercas . Monzó is particularly known in Catalonia for his columns, which appear regularly in the daily newspaper La Vanguardia , and his popular radio programs El lloro, el moro, el mico i el senyor de Puerto Rico and El mínim esforç , which he collaborated with the renowned Catalan author Sergi Pàmies moderated. Also with Pàmies, Monzó wrote Sang bruta (Dirty Blood), a radio novela in 113 chapters.

At the 59th Frankfurt Book Fair 2007 Quim Monzó gave the literary opening speech on the occasion of the thematic focus on Catalonia.

From December 2009 to April 2010 a large retrospective of his life and work took place in the premises of Arts Santa Mònica in Barcelona under the heading Monzó .

On June 4, 2018, Quim Monzó received the prestigious Premi d'Honor de les Lletres Catalanes at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona .
