The Aberystwyth University ( Welsh : Prifysgol Aberystwyth ) is a university in Wales , United Kingdom. Aberystwyth University emerged on October 1, 2007 from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth , a member of the United University of Wales . The University of Wales, Aberystwyth was one of the first university institutions to be established in Wales. In the 2013/14 academic year, the university had 11,170 students spread across 18 academic departments. The college's nickname among students is But . The business institute is accredited by the Association of MBAs . The Institute for International Politics, founded in 1919, was the first of its kind in the world. Today it is one of the largest in the world and Europe's largest in this area.

history

The university was founded in 1872 as the University College of Wales . The first principal was Thomas Charles Edwards , and there were 26 students. In 1894 the college co-founded the University of Wales. Before that, the students were tested by the University of London .

In 1919 the world's first institute for international politics was founded in Aberystwyth.

Among the professors were R. Geraint Gruffydd (1928–2015), Bobi Jones , Edward Hallett Carr and Leopold Kohr .

In 1989 the College of Librarianship Wales in Llanbadarn , founded in 1964, was merged with the Institute for Information and Library Studies . In 1996 the Welsh Agricultural College merged with the Institute of Agriculture to create the Welsh Institute of Rural Studies . It was subsequently renamed the Institute of Rural Sciences .

But MUD , the first known internet-based MUD , was written by then-student Alan Cox .

Old College, the old main building

The main campus is on Penglais Hill, overlooking the city of Aberystwyth and Cardigan Bay . Below is the National Library of Wales . The original university building, right by the sea, is still in use and called the Old College . Another campus is to the east of Aberystwyth in the small village of Llanbadarn Fawr . There are the institute buildings for Information and Library Studies , Agriculture and other subjects.
