Une Aina Bastholm (born January 14, 1986 in Trondheim ) is a Norwegian politician of the green party Miljøpartiet De Grønne (MDG). From 2016 to 2020 she was the party's national spokesperson, and has been the party leader since April 2020.

education and profession

Bastholm first grew up in Trondheim. At the age of 10 she moved to the northern Norwegian town of Bodø . She studied Political Science at the University of Oslo and she holds a Masters Degree in International Politics from Aberystwyth University in Wales .

After completing her studies, she first worked in her parents' shop in Trondheim before she was employed by the animal welfare organization Dyrevernalliansen from 2011 to 2012 . She then worked for the Norges Naturvernforbund until 2013 .

Political career

From 2000 to 2004 she was involved in the youth organization of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap), the Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking (AUF). She later justified her exit by stating that she was campaigning for the Ap and not the UP and that these were very different. In 2010 she joined the MDG and became a member of the Board of Trondheim in 2011. Between 2012 and 2013 she was part of the national board and from 2013 to 2014 she chaired the party in Oslo .

From 2013 to 2017 Bastholm was the so-called Vararepresentantin in the Norwegian parliament in Storting . So she was not an actual member, but could have moved up to replace it. However, such a mission did not take place. Instead, between 2013 and 2016 she was political advisor to the only MDG MP in Storting, Rasmus Hansson . In 2016, she and Hansson were elected national spokeswoman for the party with 142 to 48 votes. This post corresponds to that of a party leader in most other parties. In May 2018 it was re-confirmed as such for two years. On February 23, 2020, she was appointed by the party as the first party chairman after it was decided in 2018 to convert the posts of national spokesman into that of party chairman in the MDG. A digital party conference at the end of April 2020 confirmed her in this position.

In the 2017 election , she was the only politician in her party to make direct entry into Storting. She represents the Oslo constituency there. Between 2017 and June 2018, she was represented by Per Espen Stoknes for a period as she was on maternity leave herself.
