Japanese Tears Anyone Can Fly
(1982)

Japanese Tears is the third studio album by Denny Laine , who was a member of the group Wings at the time of recording . It was released in the UK on December 6, 1980. In Germany, the album was released under the title Go Now in December 1980.

Emergence

After the release of the album Back to the Egg , the Wings prepared their world tour, which then began from November 23 to December 17, 1979 with a UK tour of 19 concerts. It was to be the Wings' last tour. A tour of Japan did not take place in January 1980 because Paul McCartney was arrested on arrival for possession of hashish . On the return flight from Japan to Europe, Laine composed the song Japanese Tears , which reflects his opinion on the incident.

In the first half of 1980 Denny Laine recorded eleven songs with Wings drummer Steve Holley and other studio musicians. Two of the songs were played live during Wings tours and sung by Denny Laine: Say You Don't Mind was played during the 1972/73 tours, Go Now , a hit by The Moody Blues group , was played during the 1973 and 1975/76 and played the 1979 tour. The Wings were released on the 1976 live album Wings over America .

Denny Laine also used three previously unpublished Wings songs:

  • The song I Would Only Smile , recorded on March 22, 1972, was originally supposed to appear on the planned Wings double album Red Rose Speedway , because the record company did not agree with the idea of releasing a double album others on I Would Only Smile . It wasn't until December 2018 that the song was re-released on Red Rose Speedway's Deluxe Edition .
  • On June 6, 1974, the Wings flew to Nashville , Tennessee , USA. In the Sound Shop Studios in Nashville between June and July 1974, in addition to Junior's Farm and Sally G , which came out as a single in October 1974, Send Me the Heart , a Laine / McCartney composition, was recorded.
  • From May 28 to June 6, 1979, the Wings were to music video recordings at Lympne Castle, where they also recorded the song Weep for Love .

In May 1980, McCartney II , a solo album by Paul McCartney, was released. In July, August and October 1980 the Wings prepared their new studio album, which was not finished. In February 1981 Steve Holley and Laurence Juber left the wings; only Denny Laine worked on the now new Paul McCartney album Tug of War until March 1981 . In March / April 1981 the collaboration with Denny Laine was ended, after which on April 27, 1981 the end of the band Wings was officially announced.

Denny Laine was a founding member of the group Wings on August 3, 1971 and thus the only constant member of the group alongside Paul & Linda McCartney .
