Libano is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Tolima in Colombia .

geography

Líbano is located in the Provincia de Nevados in the north of Tolima at an altitude of 1565 m above sea level. NN , 120 km from Ibagué and has an average temperature of 20 ° C. The municipality borders on Villahermosa and Armero to the north, Murillo to the west, Lérida and Santa Isabel to the east and Santa Isabel to the south.

history

Before the arrival of the Spaniards, the indigenous peoples of the Panches , Pantágoras , Marquetones and Bledos lived in the area of today's Líbano . From the 19th century, the region experienced an intensified settlement from Antioquia . Líbano itself was founded in 1849. From the beginning of the 20th century, the socio-economic importance of Líbano grew.
