Chaparral is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Tolima in Colombia . Chaparral has a share in the Las Hermosas Natural Park .
geography
Chaparral is located in the Provincia del Sur in the southwest of Tolima at an altitude of 854 m above sea level. NN , 153 km from Ibagué and has an average temperature of 24 ° C. The municipality borders Roncesvalles , San Antonio and Ortega to the north, Coyaima and Ataco to the east, Rioblanco and Ataco to the south, and Tuluá , Buga and Seville in the Valle del Cauca department to the west .

history
The area of Chaparral was settled from the second half of the 18th century. Chaparral has been a parish since 1767. The main town was not initially in its current location. However, the place was destroyed by an earthquake in 1827 and was subsequently rebuilt in its current location by 1837. Chaparral has had parish status since 1861.

The main industries of Chaparral are agriculture and cattle production . Besides cattle, pigs , poultry and horses are bred.
