Guamo , including El Guamo , is a municipality (municipio) in the department of Tolima in Colombia .

Guamo is located in the Provincia de Suroriente in Tolima 72 km from Ibagué at an altitude of 326  m above sea level. NN and has an average annual temperature of 28 ° C. The municipality is bordered by San Luis and El Espinal to the north, Suárez to the east, Purificación and Saldaña to the south and San Luis to the west.

history

The area of ​​today's Guamo was originally inhabited by the indigenous peoples of the Lemayaes and Catufas and was discovered for the Spaniards in 1538 by Sebastián de Belalcázar . Guamo was founded in 1772 by a priest as Santa Ana del Guamo . Guamo has had parish status since 1863.
