society

Aristizábal's professional career began in 1990 at Atlético Nacional in Colombia. He moved abroad for the first time in four years and was loaned to the traditional Spanish club Valencia CF in 1994 for a six-month guest appearance . There he could not assert himself and soon returned to the Copa Mustang . He stayed 2 more seasons with Atlético Nacional, with whom he won the championship twice.

He then moved to Brazil to São Paulo FC for two years . In 1998 he signed a contract with league rivals FC Santos . After he was not happy there, he moved back to his home country in 1999 and hired at Deportivo Cali , but couldn't convince there either and decided to move to Brazil for the second time.

His new employer in 2002 was the EC Vitória . But he remained loyal to this club for only one year and in the next two years he moved twice within the Brazilian league: 2003 to Cruzeiro Belo Horizonte and 2004 to Coritiba FC .

After 3 years in Brazil, Aristizábal moved to Colombia again; he signed with his home club, Atlético Nacional, and was able to win the Copa Mustang for the third time .

After knee problems, he finally ended his active career in November 2007. He gave his farewell game on July 12 of the same year. (see below)

In his final year for Nacional, he won his fourth league title with the Greens .

National team

In 1992, Aristizábel played with an Olympic selection at the 1992 Summer Games . The striker failed to win with his team, so they were eliminated after the preliminary round. Between 1993 and 2006 Aristizábel was a key player in the Colombian national soccer team . During this time he completed 66 international matches and scored 15 goals. He played his first tournament with Colombia in 1993 when he was nominated for the 1993 Copa America . There they reached third place in the tournament. A year later, the striker was in the Colombian squad for the 1994 World Cup in the USA, but only sat on the bench and traveled as a spectator. At the 1998 World Cup in France he played his way into the starting line-up and was used in all of his team's games, but none for the full playing time. The striker was already in the team of coach Hernán Darío Gómez at the 1997 Copa America last year .

At the Copa América 2001 in his home country, he was able to celebrate his first international title win with the Colombian selection. He was also the top scorer of the tournament with 6 goals. There Colombia moved into the third place match, which it against Turkey with 1: 2 lost. Aristizábal never missed a minute of the tournament but couldn't score a goal for his team.

When there was a dispute between Aristizábel and his national coach Francisco Maturana during qualifying for the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he announced his resignation from the national team.
