Mario Alberto Yepes Díaz (born January 13, 1976 in Cali ) is a former Colombian football player .
Career
The central defender Yepes began his professional career in his home country at Deportivo Cali and moved to the top Argentine club CA River Plate in 1999 . In 2002 he went to Europe for the French club FC Nantes , where he immediately became a regular. In 2004 he moved to Paris Saint-Germain in France , where he signed a contract until summer 2008. He then moved to Chievo Verona in Italy on a free transfer , where he first signed a one-year contract, which he extended for another year in 2009.
In 2010, his teammate Sergio Pellissier started the rumor that Yepes would move to AC Milan after his contract expired. In July 2010, Yepes actually signed a deal with AC Milan.
For the 2013/14 season, Yepes moved to Atalanta Bergamo.
In 2014 he moved back to his homeland in South America to CA San Lorenzo to end his career .
A year later, Yepes ended his football career at the age of 40.
National team
Mario Yepes made his international debut on February 9, 1999 in a 3-3 draw against Germany . He was active for the Colombian national soccer team until the 2014 World Cup , where he was also the oldest player in the World Cup .
For the Colombian national team, Yepes has played 102 games so far and scored six goals. He made his 100th international match at the 2014 World Cup , where he made four appearances as captain of the Colombian team and reached the quarter-finals for the first time.
