career

Iván Hurtado

Hurtado began his career with Esmeraldas Petrolero in his hometown, where he made his debut in 1990 at the age of 16. In 1991 he moved to Emelec Guayaquil , one of the most important clubs in Ecuador. On May 24, 1992, he made his national team debut in a friendly against Guatemala in Guatemala City . In this game, which ended 1-1, Hurtado also scored the first of his five goals for the national team.

In 1995 he moved to Atlético Celaya in the Mexican Primera División , for which he worked until the end of 1997 and with whom he reached the finals several times. As a result of his good performance at Celaya, he was signed in 1998 by the top team of the Tigres de Monterrey , where he was active until 2001. Then began a period in which Hurtado was on loan to CF La Piedad (Mexico, mid-2001 to February 2002), Barcelona SC Guayaquil (Ecuador, February 2002 to December 2003) and Real Murcia (Spain, second half of the 2003/04 season) played.

In July 2003, his transfer rights were acquired by CF Pachuca in Mexico, who played for the 2003/04 season. After he was not drafted again in Mexico and negotiations about a move to Ecuador fell apart, Hurtado signed a loan deal with Al-Arabi in Qatar. For the 2006/07 season he moved to Al-Ahli SC within Qatar . In January 2007 he moved to Atlético Nacional in the Colombian league. With his new team he became Colombian champions of the Apertura and Clausura tournaments in the first season . For the 2008 season he moved back to Ecuador for Barcelona SC. After half a year in which Barcelona was not very successful, he left the club and moved to Millonarios in the Colombian first division. After a year there, he returned to Ecuador, where he has played for Deportivo Quito since July 2009.

On October 14, 2014, he played his 168th and last international match in a 5-1 win against El Salvador.
