Fiera di Primiero (German outdated Markt Primör ) is a fraction of the municipality ( comune ) Primiero San Martino di Castrozza and until 2015 was an independent municipality in Trentino in the autonomous region of Trentino-South Tyrol . The place is the administrative and economic center of the Valle del Primiero ( Primörtal ) in eastern Trentino.
geography
The place is 745 m slm at the confluence of the Torrente Canali in the Cismon , after which the Valle del Primiero is also called Valle del Cismon (Cismon Valley), at the foot of the mountain Bédolé and the Pala group . The place is about 15 km south of San Martino di Castrozza and 25 km from the Rolle Pass , over which the road continues to Bolzano and Trento . The village is connected to Agordo by the Val Canali , which rises to the east, via the Passo Cereda , and to the south by the Val di Schenèr to Feltre in the province of Belluno .
The municipality of Fiera di Primiero was until its dissolution with its 0.15 km² the smallest municipality in Italy before Atrani on the Amalfi Coast with 0.20 km². It bordered the municipalities of Siror , Tonadico , Transacqua and Mezzano .
history
The valley of Primör , which belongs to the fief of the Welsperg family, was part of historical Tyrol , which Margaret of Tyrol bequeathed to the Habsburg Duke Rudolf IV in 1363 . Soon afterwards it experienced an extraordinary boom due to its numerous copper, silver and iron mines. The numerous miners who were brought in built a new village at the confluence of the two rivers, where the market (la fiera ) was held for the mined ores. Although the smallest and youngest village, it quickly developed into the capital of the valley, also compared to the older Tonadico , in which the statutes of the valley were kept. With the peace treaty of St. Germain in 1919, South Tyrol and thus the Valle del Primiero became part of Italy.
On January 1, 2016, Fiera di Primiero merged with the municipalities of Siror, Tonadico and Transacqua to form the new municipality of Primiero San Martino di Castrozza.
Attractions
The Palazzo delle Miniere , the seat of the so-called imperial mountain judge , who oversaw the mines of Primiero, still reminds of the historical mining . The parish church of Santa Maria Assunta is one of the most beautiful Gothic churches in Trentino with a winged altar carved in 1465 and a fresco showing the Romans , who were important in the valley, adoring the risen Christ. Next to the Palazzo delle Miniere is the Romanesque church of San Martino from the 11th century.
