Franz Liftl

Franz Josef Liftl (born March 26, 1864 in Allentsteig ; † September 10, 1932 in Vienna ) was an Austrian musician and composer.

Liftl studied French horn , piano , music history and harmony at the Conservatory of the Gesellschaft der Musikfreunde in Vienna and received private lessons in counterpoint and composition from, among others, Anton Wunderer and Franz Krenn .

He continued his studies at the Horak Music School and in 1892 passed the teaching examination with Franz Krenn, Leopold Landskron and Eduard Hanslick . Liftl was engaged at the Theater an der Wien and was also a private teacher.

Among other things, he composed the operetta Die Lügenwaage as well as over 100 waltzes, marches and various dances. His arrangements of works by Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Wagner and others are also worth mentioning. His march for horn quartet with heart and hand is performed again and again .
