Iain Roberts

Iain Roberts (born May 16, 1979 in Lichfield ) is a New Zealand skeleton driver .

Iain Roberts started skeleton in 2003 and joined New Zealand's national team the following year. He lives in Edinburgh and is trained by Bruce Sandford and John Scott. The Briton, who started for New Zealand, made his first international race in January 2004 at a skeleton World Cup race in Lillehammer , which he finished in 38th place. Just one month later he started his first skeleton world championship in Königssee and finished 33rd. In the following season he was mainly used in the Skeleton European Cup and the Skeleton America's Cup . In Lake Placid he achieved his first result in the top ten in eighth place. At the Universiade 2005 in Igls he came in 17th place. In January 2006 Roberts was able to win his first World Cup point as 30th in St. Moritz . In the 2006/07 season he reached his best position to date with rank 27 in Calgary . The following season he started in the European Cup , then he drove in the newly created Skeleton Intercontinental Cup (tenth overall) and in the America's Cup, where Roberts achieved his best result so far with second place in Calgary. Roberts is currently a PhD student in the astrophysics department .
