Anthony Sawyer
Anthony Sawyer (born April 29, 1980 in Essex ) is a retired British skeleton driver and athlete .
Sawyer was initially active as a decathlete until 2004 . His greatest achievement was a seventh place at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester , where he started for England . He set his personal best of 7472 points on May 30, 2004 in Woodford .
Sawyer has been running skeleton since 2002 and has been a member of the national squad since 2004. He is trained by Mark Wood . His first major race was the British Championship, in which he finished sixth in 2003. Since the 2004/05 season he has competed in competitions such as the European Skeleton Cup and the America's Cup . But only since the 2006/07 season he achieved good results there such as a second place in November 2006 in the America's Cup race in Calgary . In addition, he was British runner-up behind Adam Pengilly in 2006 . In the 2007/08 season he started in the Skeleton World Cup for the first time and was quickly able to secure a permanent place on the grid. He achieved his best result of the season in fourth place in Nagano . He finished 15th at the 2007 Skeleton World Cup in St. Moritz . In 2008/09 , he was third for the first time on the podium at the second season World Cup in Park City .
