Caleb Smith

Caleb Smith (born October 5, 1983 in Lake Placid ) is an American skeleton rider .

Caleb Smith lives in Lake Placid and has been involved in skeleton since 2001. The student has been part of the US national team since 2004. His coach is Orvie Garrett . In late 2002 he made his debut in the America's Cup . He finished fifth in the North American Championships. In the 2003/04 season he finished after several good individual results, including two victories in Lake Placid on his home track, second place in the overall standings of the America's Cup behind Zach Lund . He also finished second behind Greg Kirk at the Junior World Championships in Winterberg . He also finished second at the 2004 US Championships behind Eric Bernotas . In December 2004 Smith made his debut in Altenberg in the World Cup and was 13th. The Junior World Championships in January 2005 he finished third.

In the eliminations for the Olympic Games in Turin , Smith could not prevail despite two good races at the beginning (first and second place). After he was only used as a forerunner in Sigulda in December , Smith was able to finish eighth in the top ten for the first time in January 2006 in St. Moritz . Then he won a European Cup race in the same place . At the beginning of the 2006/07 season, he first won a race in the America's Cup in Calgary and finished second in Lake Placid, his best result to date in the World Cup . He finished twelfth at the 2007 Skeleton World Championship in St. Moritz .
