Katharina Heinz (born June 27, 1987 in Siegen ) is a German skeleton pilot .

Athletic career

Katharina Heinz lives in Siegen and starts for the RSG Hochsauerland , where she is trained by Bernhard Lehmann . The Seelbacherin started skeleton in 2003 and has been part of the German national team since 2006. In November 2006, Heinz made his debut in Igls in the European Skeleton Cup and finished fourth. Heinz has been competing in the newly created Skeleton Intercontinental Cup since the 2007/08 season .

In January 2008 she won a race in Calgary as part of the America's Cup after she was previously runner-up in Park City and then third in the Intercontinental Cup in Calgary . In 2008 she won the German Championships for 2009 ahead of Kathleen Lorenz and Marion Trott . On January 16, 2009, Heinz became Junior World Champion on the bobsleigh and toboggan run at Königssee with a total time of 1: 39.48 minutes. The 2008/09 Intercontinental Cup season was extremely successful for Heinz. She won two races, both in Park City , Heinz finished second once and third twice. This placed her on the podium in five of the eight races of the season. In the overall standings, she placed first in front of Amy Gough and Donna Creighton . At the beginning of 2010, Heinz succeeded in winning the silver medal at the German championships. At the Junior World Championships 2010 she finished 6th. In the overall ranking of the Intercontinental Cup 2009/10 she was ranked third with 805 points and thus only five points behind the runner-up Lucy Katherine Chaffer at the end of the season. That made her the best junior of the season. For the 2010/11 season , Heinz was able to secure the third German starting place for the Skeleton World Cup after the resignation of Kerstin Szymkowiak . In Whistler on the previous season's Olympic track , she immediately achieved a top ten placement when she was eighth. Her best results of the season were two fifths in Calgary and Cesana . At the 2011 European Skeleton Championships in Winterberg she was eighth and sixth at the World Championships in Königssee .

At the European Skeleton Championships in Altenberg in 2012 , she won the runner-up and thus her first medal at an international championship.

Extra sports

Heinz is studying International Management at the Ansbach University of Applied Sciences , a bachelor's degree specially designed for top athletes. She is also a sports soldier in the sports promotion group of the Bundeswehr Warendorf .

Awards

In 2010, for the third year in a row, Heinz was elected on the podium for women in the Siegener Zeitung election at the end of each year in the Siegerland Sports Ranking. In 2009 she came third, in 2010 she finished second behind the permanent winner Sabrina Mockenhaupt and ahead of Princess Nathalie zu Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg .
