Chloe Kim (born April 23, 2000 ) is an American snowboarder . She starts in the freestyle disciplines.

Career

Kim has been participating in the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour since 2009 . She got her first podium finishes in the 2009/10 season with second place on the halfpipe of the Australian Junior Series in Perisher Blue and third in slopestyle and first place on the halfpipe at the Burton European Junior Open in Laax . In January 2012, she took third place in slopestyle and second place on the halfpipe at The Burton Pro Test in Mammoth .

In the 2012/13 season she won the Burton European Junior Open on the halfpipe and in slopestyle. In March 2013 she became the American halfpipe champion. She finished the season in sixth place in the World Snowboard Tour overall ranking. The following season she finished third on the half pipe at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and first place on the half pipe at the 2014 US Revolution Tour in Mammoth . At the Winter X Games 2014 she won silver in the Superpipe competition. In March 2014, she took third place on the halfpipe at the Burton US Open in Vail . She finished the season in first place in the overall tour standings. This makes her the youngest overall tour winner.

At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, she won the halfpipe at the Burton High Fives in Cardrona . This was followed by second places on the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge on the halfpipe and in slopestyle on the US Revolution Tour in Copper Mountain . At the Winter X Games 2015 , she won gold in the Superpipe competition, making her the youngest gold medalist at the X Games. In February 2015 she took second place on the halfpipe at the Burton European Open in Laax . That same month she won the US Revolution Tour in Mammoth on the halfpipe. At the 2015 Burton US Open, she finished second on the halfpipe. At the end of the season, she won the US Revolution Tour in Mammoth in slopestyle.

After two second places on the halfpipe at the beginning of the 2015/16 season at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and at the US Grand Prix and FIS World Cup in Mammoth , she won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen as in the previous year Half pipe competition. In February 2016 she won the US Grand Prix and FIS World Cup in Park City and won gold medals on the halfpipe and in the slopestyle at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer . In the same month she won the gold medal on the halfpipe at the X-Games Oslo 2016 in Oslo . The following month she won the Burton US Open in Vail in the halfpipe competition and reached the end of the season in seventh place in the Freestyle World Cup and third place in the Halfpipe World Cup.

In the 2016/17 season she won the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Copper Mountain and the Laax Open 2017 and World Cup. She also came fourth in the World Cup twice and won the Halfpipe World Cup at the end of the season. She took sixth place in the Freestyle World Cup. She won the bronze medal at the Winter X Games 2017 . The following season she won the World Cups in Cardrona and Copper Mountain and came second in Snowmass . At the Winter X Games 2018 and the subsequent Olympic Winter Games 2018 in Pyeongchang , she won the gold medal in the halfpipe. In March 2018 she won the Burton US Open and at the end of the season she finished second in the Freestyle World Cup and first place in the Halfpipe World Cup.

At the beginning of the 2018/19 season she triumphed at the World Cup and US Grand Prix in Copper Mountain and the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge. This was followed by first place in Laax and second in Vail at the Burton US Open in early March 2019. She won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2019 and the Snowboard World Championships 2019 in Park City . She finished the season in ninth place in the Freestyle World Cup and fourth in the Halfpipe World Cup.

In addition to her athletic career, Kim also campaigns publicly against the threat of the climate crisis . She is committed to the climate protection organization Protect Our Winters (POW), which points out the increasing threat to winter sports from global warming .
