Queralt Castellet Ibáñez (born June 17, 1989 in Sabadell ) is a Spanish snowboarder from Catalonia . She mainly starts in the disciplines of halfpipe and snowboard cross , but also competes in big air and parallel giant slalom .
Career
Castellet was already on the snowboard at the age of six, but is also active in other sports, for example, she competes in rhythmic gymnastics . Castellet, who says of herself that she prefers to be where there is snow, began her international career in 2005 with European Cup and FIS races . On March 22, 2005, she was the Spanish champion in snowboard cross in La Molina and the day after achieved her first victory in an FIS race, also in cross. At the Junior World Championships of the same year, she could not put herself in the limelight. She made her World Cup debut in September 2005 in the Chilean Valle Nevado - placed 42nd but not in the front field - and has since competed regularly in the World Cup. Since the 2007/2008 season she has been able to fight for a place in the top ten at each of her starts. Already at the Snowboard World Championship in 2007 she established herself in the absolute world elite with tenth place.
At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , the then sixteen-year-old finished 26th in the halfpipe competition. Also in 2006 she won two Spanish championships, this time in the halfpipe and snowboard cross, and she also won two FIS races. Since the 2007 season she has concentrated more on the halfpipe competition and achieved three podium places in the World Cup. In 2008 she was again the national title holder, this time in Big Air. The 2009 season began for Castellet with tenth place in the halfpipe competition in Saas-Fee . At the Snowboard World Championships 2009 in Gangwon , she finished sixth on the halfpipe. At the Snowboard Junior World Championships 2009 in Nagano , she won silver in the halfpipe competition.
In the 2009/10 season, Castellet reached fourth place in the halfpipe evaluation of the Dew Tour with a win and a third place at the Winter Dew Tour. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she took third place in the qualifying round in the halfpipe and was thus directly qualified for the final. In training, she fell shortly before the final, sustaining a head injury, so she could not take part in the final and finished in 12th place. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, she won second place on the halfpipe at the Burton New Zealand Open in Cardrona . This was followed by another win at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and a second place at the Burton European Open in Laax . In March 2011 she won her first World Cup in Arosa . In the same month she won the bronze medal on the halfpipe at the Winter X Games Europe 2011 in Tignes . At the beginning of the following season she finished third at the Burton New Zealand Open in Cardrona . In the further course of the season she achieved a World Cup victory in Saas-Fee and another victory at the Burton Canadian Open in Calgary . At the Snowboard World Championships 2012 in Oslo she won silver on the halfpipe. She finished the season in sixth place in the TTR World Snowboard Tour overall ranking and second place in the FIS Freestyle and Halfpipe World Cup.
In the 2012/13 season, Castellet finished second at the Burton High Fives in Snow Park and at the Dew Tour - Mountain Championships in Breckenridge . In the FIS World Cup, she reached third place twice in four participations during the season. At the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham , she came fifth. She reached 11th place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . In January 2015, she won the silver medal on the halfpipe at the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg . The following month, she also won silver in the halfpipe competition at the 2015 Winter Universiade in Sierra Nevada . At the Snowboard World Championships in 2017 in the Sierra Nevada , she achieved 11th place in the halfpipe and tenth place in Big Air. In the 2017/18 season, she finished tenth with third place in Laax and first in Snowmass in the Freestyle World Cup and fourth place in the Halfpipe World Cup. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she was seventh in the halfpipe.
In the 2018/19 season, Castellet came second in Laax and first in Calgary and thus achieved fifth place in the Freestyle World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She also finished third on the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge. She won the silver medal at the Winter X Games 2019 . In early February 2019 she finished fourth at the World Championships in Park City . In the following season, she won in Copper Mountain and in Laax and thus achieved sixth place in the Freestyle World Cup and third place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She also finished third at the Winter Dew Tour in Copper Mountain and eighth at the Burton US Open in Vail . She won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2020 in Aspen .
Castellet lives in her Catalan hometown of Sabadell near Barcelona .
