Snowboard cross
As snowboard cross (also boardercross , SBX or BoarderX hereinafter) to a snowboard -competition against each other overcome in which a group of at least four drivers at the same time a downhill slope. Usually four snowboarders start, two of whom advance to the next round. You start next to each other from a start box. The route is usually quite narrow and prepared with various challenges (jumps, curves, steps, depressions, tapering) and different angles of inclination in order to test the participants' driving skills.
Due to the narrow route, collisions between the racing drivers are not uncommon, which is why these races are driven with extensive body protection and motocross- like crash helmets with chin protection.
The competition has been part of the program of the Winter Olympics since the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin .
Since this form of competition is very attractive and provides interesting TV pictures, white water kayak races have also been organized according to the same scheme for some time and are also referred to as boardercross .
