DiscT @ 2

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

DiscT @ 2 ( for " Disc Tattoo " - see Leetspeak ) is a technique developed by Yamaha for labeling CDs on the data side. For this purpose, any pattern is burned into the unused area of the CD (outer edge). The "picture" is then created by the difference in contrast between 'labeled' and 'unlabeled'.

The process basically works with all types of CD, but an image is only visible if the difference in contrast is large enough. The older CD-Rs , which were all dark green ( cyanine ) or dark blue ( azo ), worked best. The only CD-Rs that are still made with cyanine or azo today come from Taiyo Yuden ( Plextor , Verbatim Pastel Disc) and Mitsubishi (Verbatim DataLifePlus).

A glued-on label or classic CD printing (directly in the printer) was also still possible.

The only turntable that used this technique was the Yamaha CRW-F1. The technology has been further developed, licensed by NEC and has come onto the market for DVD burners under the name Labelflash .
