Kelly Clark (born July 26, 1983 in Newport , Rhode Island ) is a former American professional snowboarder and Olympic champion of the 2002 Winter Olympics .

Career

Kelly Clark is part of a new wave of halfpipe riders who are increasing the level and difficulty of the tricks . At the age of 16, she joined the Burton team in 1999 to train with the entire US team. From 2001 she was among the best in the world in the halfpipe. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , Clark won the gold medal in the halfpipe competition at the age of 18, making him the first woman to win a gold medal in this discipline. Four years later, she finished fourth at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Bardonecchia . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she won the bronze medal in the halfpipe.

Clark is also a regular participant in halfpipe events on the TTR World Snowboard Tour . Her greatest success on the tour so far she celebrated in the 2008/09 season, which she finished as Swatch TTR World Tour Champion. In the course of her career on the TTR Tour, Clark has already achieved many victories, including the 6Star Burton European Open, the 6Star Roxy Chicken Jam, the 5Star Burton New Zealand Open and the 6Star Burton US Open.

After the Olympic Games, she stayed on the TTR tour for the time being. It was not until December 2010 that Clark started again in an FIS competition in the NorAm Cup. In Copper she finished second and was on the podium again. After winning gold in the Superpipe at the Winter X Games and Winter X Games Europe in 2011, she also won the NorAm Cup in Copper in December.

In August 2012, Clark won another World Cup in Cardrona . She celebrated another victory in the 2012/13 season in Sochi in February , which was considered the dress rehearsal for the 2014 Winter Olympics . After she started the season with wins at Cardrona and Copper Mountain, she was also one of the favorites in the halfpipe at the games. In the end, as in 2010, she won bronze. In the 2014/15 Snowboard World Cup , Clark only started at the World Cups in Cardrona and on Copper Mountain and was able to win both of them. In the 2015/16 season , however, she only started with a poor sixth place on the Cardrona halfpipe. In January 2016, she won the US Snowboarding Grand Prix and Snowboard World Cup in Mammoth on the halfpipe and came fifth in the superpipe competition at the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen . The following month she finished third at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix and Snowboard World Cup in Park City and won the silver medal on the superpipe at the X-Games Oslo 2016 in Oslo . In early March 2016 she was third in the halfpipe competition at the Burton US Open in Vail and at the end of the season she finished fifth in the Freestyle World Cup and second in the Halfpipe World Cup. In the 2016/17 season she triumphed at the World Cup in Pyeongchang and at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix and World Cup in Mammoth , finishing eighth in the Freestyle World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She also finished fourth in the 2017 Winter X Games and sixth in the Burton US Open. After finishing second at the World Cup in Cardrona at the beginning of the 2017/18 season, she came third at the World Cup in Copper Mountain, second at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and first at the US Snowboarding Grand Prix in Mammoth. She achieved 12th place in the Freestyle World Cup and sixth place in the Halfpipe World Cup. She finished fourth at the 2018 Winter X Games and the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang. She ended her active career on January 25, 2019.
