Super pipe
A superpipe is a particularly large halfpipe that is used in sports such as snowboarding or freestyle skiing . Their dimensions must be 6.70 meters high, 19 to 21 meters wide - depending on the steepness of the wall and measured at the crest of the halfpipe - and a minimum length of 150 meters. These dimensions are specified in the competition rules of the International Ski Federation FIS and also apply to the Olympic discipline “Snowboard Halfpipe”.
Construction and dissemination
Super Pipes are of at groomers mounted milling prepared. The best-known manufacturers of such snow groomers are Kässbohrer ( Germany ), HiTe Metal Oy ( Finland ) and Zaugg ( Switzerland ). There are permanently installed superpipes in the ski areas Arosa (Switzerland), Davos (Switzerland), KPark, Kühtai ( Austria ) and Hintertuxer Gletscher (Austria), Laax (Switzerland), Oberstdorf (Germany), Saas Fee (Switzerland), Valle Nevado ( Chile ; the only superpipe in South America ) as well as in almost all larger ski areas in Canada , Scandinavia and the USA .
Biggest super pipe in the world
The world's largest superpipe has been in the Swiss ski resort of Laax since the 2014/15 winter season . It is located at 2,200 meters above sea level on the Crap Sogn Gion mountain in the NoName snow park. With a length of 200 meters, a width of 22 meters and a height of 6.90 meters, it is larger than the corresponding Olympic specifications. The pipe is freely accessible with regular lift tickets. The construction cost the operator, the Weisse Arena Gruppe, 4.6 million Swiss francs. The European snowboard contest "LAAX OPEN" is held in this superpipe.
The superpipe is groomed with a “ZAUGG Pipe Monster 22ft + LAAX Edition” piste machine specially developed by Laax.
