Torah Jane Bright OAM (born December 27, 1986 in Cooma , Australia ) is an Australian professional snowboarder and winner of the 2006/07 TTR season.
Life
Bright started snowboarding at the age of eleven and competed in international competitions at the age of 14. Since then she has lived in Salt Lake City in winter and in Australia in winter there. She drove her first FIS World Cup race in September 2003 in Valle Nevado , which she finished in fourth place on the halfpipe. A third place in Sapporo and two second places in Whistler and Niigata followed in the season . In March 2004 she won her first FIS World Cup victory in Bardonecchia and thus achieved second place in the FIS halfpipe rating. The following season she finished second on the halfpipe at the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain Resort and two third places at FIS World Cup races in Bardonecchia. At the Snowboard World Championships 2005 in Whistler , she finished 30th in the halfpipe competition. In January 2006 she won the silver medal in the Superpipe competition at the Winter X Games in Aspen . At her first Olympic participation in Turin in 2006 , she achieved fifth place on the halfpipe. At the Burton US Open 2006 she won on the halfpipe.
In the 2006/07 season, Bright won the halfpipe at the Nippon Open in Bandai and at the World Superpipe Championships in Park City . At the Winter X Games 2007 , she won gold on the halfpipe. In March 2007, she finished second in slopestyle and third on the halfpipe at the Burton US Open. That same month she finished second on the halfpipe and third in slopestyle at the Roxy Chicken Jam USA in Park City . She took first place in the overall World Snowboard Tour ranking. At the beginning of the following season she won the halfpipe at the Burton New Zealand Open in Snow Park . Later in the season she won the halfpipe at the Nippon Open in Bandai , at the World Superpipe Championships in Park City and at the Burton US Open. She took second place at the Burton European Open in Laax and at the Roxy Chicken Jam USA in Mammoth . At the Winter X Games 2008 she won silver on the halfpipe. She finished the season in second place in the World Snowboard Tour overall ranking.
In the 2008-09 season, Bright won the Winter Dew Tour in Northstar-at-Tahoe and the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain Resort . At the Winter X Games 2009 she won gold in the halfpipe competition. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season she won the FIS World Cup races in Saas-Fee . At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , she won a gold medal on the halfpipe. In March 2010 she won the silver medal on the halfpipe at the Winter X Games Europe 2010 in Tignes . In the 2012/13 season she won the US Snowboarding Grand Prix and FIS World Cup races in Copper Mountain . At the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham , she won bronze in slopestyle. In December 2013 she won the Dew Tour iON Mountain Championships in Breckenridge . At the following Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 , she won silver on the halfpipe. She also took 18th place in snowboard cross and seventh place in slopestyle. At the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg in mid-January 2015, she finished sixth on the halfpipe. A week later she won the bronze medal at the 2015 Winter X Games in Aspen . The following year she was second in the halfpipe competition at the Laax Open.
Torah Bright is an avowed Mormon and has therefore chosen her second home in Salt Lake City, Utah . Bright's own collections are now being designed and should go into series production under their main sponsor brand Roxy .
