Lüftner, who starts for the WSV St. Gallenkirch, has been taking part in the European Cup since 2009. He has achieved ten podium finishes so far, including four wins, and won the overall snowboard cross ranking in the 2013/14 season. He also took fourth place in the overall snowboard cross ranking in the 2012/13 and 2015/16 seasons (as of the end of the 2019/20 season). He made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in December 2010 in Lech am Arlberg , which he finished in 52nd place. At the Snowboard Junior World Championships 2012 in Sierra Nevada he came in 18th and the following year at the Snowboard Junior World Championships in Erzurum in eighth place. In April 2014 he became Austrian champion in snowboard cross. At the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg , he came tenth. In the 2016/17 season, which he finished in 21st place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup, he achieved his first top ten placement in the individual World Cup with seventh place in Bansko . He also achieved second place in the team competition at the Solitude World Cup together with Lukas Pachner . At the season highlight of the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he finished 14th in the individual competition and together with Lukas Pachner in sixth place in the team competition. In February 2018 he won his first World Cup victory in Feldberg . In the 2019/20 season he achieved three top ten placements and tenth place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup.
