Sina Candrian (born November 21, 1988 in Flims ) is a Swiss snowboarder . She starts in the freestyle disciplines.

Career

Candrian has been participating in FIS competitions and the TTR World Snowboard Tour since 2004 . In 2005 she was second, in 2006 third at the Junior World Championships in the halfpipe . In 2006 she also won the silver medal in the junior boardercross . She drove her first FIS World Cup race in October 2005 in Saas-Fee , which she finished in 17th place on the halfpipe. In January 2007 she won the O´Neill Evolution halfpipe in Davos . At the following Snowboard World Championships in 2007 in Arosa , she was seventh in the halfpipe. In March 2007 she reached her first top ten placement in the World Cup in Lake Placid with tenth place on the halfpipe.

At the Junior World Championships in 2007 Candrian became world champion in big air . A year later, she took third place in slopestyle at the Roxy Chicken Jam USA in Mammoth . At the beginning of the 2008/09 season she took her first podium finish in a World Cup race in Cardrona with second place on the halfpipe. In January 2009, she took second place in slopestyle at the Burton European Open in Laax . She repeated this result at this event again in 2010 and 2011. At the Snowboard World Championships 2009 in Gangwon , she achieved 34th place on the halfpipe. In the 2009/10 season, she won her first World Cup race in Slopestyle in Calgary . At the Burton Canadian Open Snowboarding Championships and the Winter X Games Europe 2010 , she came third in slopestyle. At the end of the season she won slopestyle at the Burton US Open at Stratton Mountain Resort . She finished the season in second place in the World Snowboard Tour overall standings. At the Winter X Games 2011 she reached fifth place in slopestyle. In January 2012 she took second place in slopestyle at the O'Neill Evolution in Davos and at the Burton Canadian Open in Calgary. At the 2012 Snowboard World Championships in Oslo , she came 20th in Slopestyle. She ended the 2011/12 season in third place in the overall tour standings. In January 2013, she won silver in slopestyle at the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham . At the World Cup race in March 2013 in Špindlerův Mlýn , she took second place in slopestyle.

At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , Candrian missed a medal in slopestyle by 0.25 points and finished fourth. At the beginning of the 2014/15 season, she came second in the Big Air competition at the World Cup race in Istanbul . At the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg , she came fourth in slopestyle. She won bronze in the big air competition. The following year, she finished ninth in Big Air and fifth in Slopestyle at the 2016 Snowboard World Championships in Yabuli . In April 2016 she finished third on the halfpipe at the Swiss Championships in Laax. In the 2016/17 season she took third place at the World Cup on the Alpe di Siusi and second place in the Slopestyle on Kreischberg, thus reaching seventh place in the Slopestyle World Cup. She also came third at the Air & Style in Innsbruck . At the Snowboard World Championships 2017 in Sierra Nevada , she came in 13th place in slopestyle.

In November 2017 Candrian finished third in Big Air at the World Cup in Milan . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang in Big Air, which was held for the first time as part of the Olympic snowboard competitions, she finished fifth behind Anna Gasser on February 22nd and seventh in slopestyle Rank. In the 2018/19 season she achieved four top ten placements in the World Cup, including third place in the Slopestyle in Laax , seventh place in the Freestyle World Cup and fifth place in the Slopestyle World Cup. At the season highlight, the Snowboard World Championships 2019 in Park City , she came in 11th place in Slopestyle.
