Pierre Vaultier (born July 24, 1987 in Briançon ) is a French snowboarder , four-time Olympian and two-time Olympic champion in snowboard cross (2014, 2018).

Career

Vaultier began his career at the age of 13 in 2001 at the French Championships in Serre Chevallier . After he then competed in FIS races for four years and drove in the European Cup, he immediately won a medal in his first major international appearance at the Junior World Championships in Zermatt in 2005 . In his specialty snowboard cross he won the bronze medal. In the same year he made it into the World Cup at the beginning of the 2005/2006 season , but only in snowboard cross. In the fifth World Cup race he reached second place in Whistler .

Then Vaultier was appointed to the French team for the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin . There, however, he failed to achieve a better placement than 35th place. Nevertheless, he started the next winter very successfully in the World Cup, he achieved a World Cup victory for the first time. He was able to repeat this success twice in the 2007/2008 season , he also won the individual world cup in snowboard cross and was third in the overall world cup. In the 2008/2009 season , Valutier won the first World Cup race in snowboard cross and thus led the ranking again. In the 2009/10 season he won four World Cup races and came in second once. He finished the season in second place in the overall standings and first place in the snowboard cross standings. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , he finished ninth in snowboard cross. In December 2010, he won the World Cup race in Telluride . At the 2011 Snowboard World Championships in La Molina , he came in fifth. In the 2011/12 season he took third place twice and won three World Cup races. At the 2013 Snowboard World Championships in Stoneham , he narrowly missed a medal with fourth place.

Vaultier won the gold medal in snowboard cross at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . At the 2015 Snowboard World Championships on Kreischberg , he came 14th. In the 2015/16 season he made eight appearances in the World Cup, six times in the top ten. He finished second three times and won in Feldberg and Sunny Valley . In March 2016 he became French champion and won the snowboard cross world cup at the end of the season. After 13th place in Solitude and ninth place in Montafon at the beginning of the 2016/17 season, he won in Feldberg , La Molina and Veysonnaz and finished second in Bansko . As in the previous year, he won the Snowboard Cross World Cup. At the highlight of the season, the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he became world champion. In the 2017/18 season he won the Snowboard Cross World Cup for the third time in a row with four second places and first places. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he won the gold medal in snowboard cross again after 2014. At the beginning of April 2018 he became French snowboard cross champion in Peyragudes .
