Xavier de Le Rue (born July 1, 1979 in Bayonne ) is a French snowboarder .
Career
De Le Rue began his international career at the 1997 World Junior Championships in Corno alle Scale , where he came 13th in the giant slalom. On November 14, 1997, he made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup . In Tignes , however, he only reached 76th place in the giant slalom. Even a week later in Zell am See , he did not come back from 57th place. For the first time in Lienz in January 1998, he managed to make it into the top ten with seventh place. At the Junior World Championships in 1998 in Chamrousse , he finally won the silver medal in the giant slalom. In March 1998 he started in Les Angles in the parallel slalom for the first time and was also able to win the FIS race . A week later he made his debut in the halfpipe and narrowly missed the top 10 in Cauterets with 13th place. At the French Championships in 1998 in L'Alpe d'Huez , he started in snowboard cross for the first time and surprisingly reached fourth place. After he was able to win a few FIS races in this new discipline and also won the national title at the French Championships in Serre Chevallier in 2001 , he started in this discipline in the World Cup from September 2001.
On September 6, 2001, he immediately won his first World Cup race in snowboard cross. After a year break, he made it to the podium again in September 2002 in Valle Nevado with a second place. At the Snowboard World Championship 2003 in Kreischberg he finally won his first world title in snowboard cross. Six days after the World Cup, he started again with regular World Cup starts and achieved his second World Cup victory in Berchtesgaden . After he increasingly climbed onto the podium in the following years and regularly celebrated victories, he started again in snowboard cross at the French Championships in 2005, but could not finish the race. At the South American Cup, which took place a short time later, he won silver. The first World Cup race of the 2005/06 season in Valle Nevado won de Le Rue again.
At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , he reached 18th place in snowboard cross. At the 2007 Snowboard World Championship in Arosa , he won the title for the second time since 2003. After a rather rare but successful start in the World Cup, he won the silver medal at the 2009 Snowboard World Championship in Gangwon . His last international competition to date was when he took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , where he again achieved 19th place.
In 2010 he won the world championship as part of the “ Freeride World Tour ” for the third time in a row .
