Alex Pullin (born September 20, 1987 in Mansfield , † July 8, 2020 in Gold Coast ) was an Australian snowboarder .

Career

From 2002 to 2007, Pullin mainly took part in FIS races . At the Snowboard World Championships 2005 in Whistler , he finished 54th in snowboard cross. He drove his first World Cup race in Furano in February 2007 , which he finished in 18th place. At the Snowboard World Championships 2007 in Arosa , he came in 26th place. In April 2007 he won bronze in snowboard cross at the Junior World Championships in Bad Gastein . At the beginning of the 2007/08 season he achieved his first top 10 result in the World Cup with eighth place in snowboard cross in Valle Nevado . In February 2008, he achieved his first podium finish in Gujo-Gifu with third place. In his first Olympic participation in Vancouver in 2010 , he reached 17th place in snowboard cross. In March 2010 he won his first World Cup in Valmalenco . In the 2010/11 season he won the Snowboard Cross World Cup for the first time with a third, second and first place. At the highlight of the season, the 2011 Snowboard World Championships in La Molina , he became world champion in snowboard cross. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he took two second places in snowboard cross. At the Snowboard World Championships 2013 in Stoneham he was again world champion in snowboard cross. In March 2013 he won two World Cup races in Arosa and Veysonnaz and finished the season in first place in the overall snowboard cross ranking. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he came in 13th place in snowboard cross.

At the Snowboard World Championships 2015 Pullin took sixth place on Kreischberg . In March 2015 he won in Veysonnaz and took third place in La Molina . He finished the 2014/15 season in second place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. In the following season he was in the top ten six times in the World Cup. He was third in Feldberg and won in Baqueira-Beret . At the Winter X Games 2016 , he won the silver medal. At the end of the season he finished fifth in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. In the 2016/17 season he won in Feldberg and took third place in Montafon and Veysonnaz. At the season highlight of the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , he won the bronze medal in the individual and together with Adam Lambert came ninth in the team competition. He finished the season in fourth place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup. In the 2017/18 season he achieved third place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup with two first and one third place. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he finished sixth in snowboard cross on February 15. In the 2018/19 season, Pullin achieved seventh place in the Snowboard Cross World Cup with three top ten placements. The FIS Snowboard World Championships 2019 in Park City , he finished ninth.

Pullin has also started in the Australia New Zealand Cup since 2008. He achieved 15 victories and won the overall ranking in 2008, 2010, 2011, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Alex Pullin was killed in a diving accident while spear fishing on an artificial reef near Palm Beach , a borough of the Gold Coast in Queensland , on the morning of July 8, 2020 .
