Haruna Matsumoto ( Japanese 松本 遥 奈 , Matsumoto Haruna ; born July 26, 1993 in Sapporo ) is a Japanese snowboarder . She starts in the halfpipe discipline.

Career

Matsumoto started in Gujo in January 2009 for the first time in the World Cup and finished sixth. The following month she finished third at the X-Trail Asian Open at Alts Bandai Ski Resort . At the beginning of the 2010/11 season she won the bronze medal at the 2010 Junior Snowboarding World Championships in Cardrona . At the 2011 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada , she finished 25th. In February 2011 she reached her first podium in the World Cup with third place in Stoneham and Calgary . At the end of the season she won the gold medal at the 2011 Snowboard Junior World Championships in Valmalenco and achieved 12th place in the Freestyle World Cup and tenth place in the Halfpipe World Cup. In the following season she came fifth in the World Cup in Saas-Fee and third in Stoneham and thus reached eighth place in the Freestyle World Cup. In the 2012/13 season she finished 19th in the Freestyle World Cup and 15th in the Halfpipe World Cup. Her best individual result was sixth place in Cardrona. In April 2012 and March 2015 she became the Japanese halfpipe champion. In the 2015/16 season, she achieved three top ten placements in the World Cup, taking 15th place in the Freestyle World Cup and seventh place in the Halfpipe World Cup. In the following season she came in all three World Cup competitions in the top ten. She was second in Mammoth and fifth in the Halfpipe World Cup at the end of the season. She won the silver medal at the 2017 Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada . In March 2017 she was again Japanese champion in the halfpipe. In the 2017/18 season she finished sixth at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang and third at the Burton US Open in Vail . The following year she finished fifth at the Winter X Games in Aspen and 16th at the World Championships in Park City . In the 2019/20 season, she won the bronze medal at the Winter X Games 2020 and also came second at the Burton US Open.
