Gulini started snowboarding at the age of nine after her siblings introduced her to the sport. Soon she was playing her first competitions; at the age of 14 she was the first time in an FIS race in the halfpipe at the start, in which she finished 41st. This was followed by further appearances in FIS races and in the Nor-Am Cup , which Gulini used to regularly achieve the top ten places. At the same time, she also took part in the Ticket to Ride World Snowboard Tour (TTR), a competition series for the FIS competitions, in which she also achieved top ten results. In March 2008, the 17-year-old American was nominated for the first time for the Snowboard World Cup and placed 30th in snowboard cross . Seven months later, she finished ninth in the Saas-Fee halfpipe competition . She achieved the same result in March 2009 at the Junior World Championships in Nagano , but there in snowboard cross.
Gulini succeeded in establishing himself at the top of the international table in winter 2009/10: within three weeks she finished eighth in the Snowboard Cross World Cup twice, thus fulfilling the internal qualification standard for the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . At the Olympics she was the youngest of three teammates in snowboard cross and reached twelfth place out of 24 participants. At the end of the season, Gulini was also in the top spot in the overall World Cup. At the beginning of the 2010/11 season, the American won her first international medal when she came second at the Junior World Championships in Cardrona and only had to admit defeat to the Czech Eva Samková in the final .
