Scott James , mostly Scotty James, (born July 6, 1994 in Melbourne ) is an Australian snowboarder and three-time Olympian (2010, 2014, 2018). He starts in the halfpipe and in slopestyle .

Career

Scott James skied for the first time at the age of two and snowboarded a year later. At the age of 14, he took part in an international competition for the first time in 2008 at the Europa Cup in Saas Fee, Switzerland. With a 23rd place at the FIS - Snowboard World Cup of the 2009/10 season in Kreischberg , he gained worldwide attention.

When his teammate Nate Johnstone had to retire due to an ankle injury, he took part in his instead of the World Cup in Stoneham , Canada a few days later . With 15th place, his best result to date, he secured a starting place at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver . At the age of 15, he was Australia's youngest male Olympian in 50 years and the youngest male competitor in those Winter Games.

At the 2013 World Championships , James finished sixth in the halfpipe. With only one podium place in the 2013/14 World Cup , he was World Cup winner in the halfpipe and third in freestyle. In January 2014 he narrowly missed a medal in the SuperPipe competition at the X-Games with fourth place. At the next Olympic Winter Games in Sochi in 2014 , Scott James missed the final in the halfpipe and only ended up on a disappointing 21st place. He also took part in the new Slopestyle competitions that were added to the Olympic program and finished in 16th place. At the 2015 World Championships on Kreischberg , he won gold in the halfpipe. The following year he won the bronze medal in the superpipe competition at the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen . In the 2016/17 season he won the World Cup in Pyeongchang and finished second at the Laax Open and World Cup at the same time. He won the Halfpipe World Cup and also finished fifth in the Freestyle World Cup. He won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2017 . In March 2017, he finished second at the Burton US Open in Vail and won gold at the Snowboard World Championships in Sierra Nevada .

In the 2017/18 season, James finished second at the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge and at the World Cup in Snowmass and third at the Burton US Open. At the end of January 2018 he won the silver medal at the Winter X Games . At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he won his first Olympic medal with bronze in the halfpipe. In the following season he won the World Cup in Copper Mountain and in Laax , finishing fifth in the Halfpipe World Cup. He also triumphed at the Burton US Open and the Winter Dew Tour in Breckenridge. He won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2019 and the Snowboard World Championships 2019 . In the 2019/20 season he won the Freestyle and Halfpipe World Cups with three wins and one second place. He also won the Winter Dew Tour at Copper Mountain and finished third at the Burton US Open. He won the gold medal at the Winter X Games 2020 .

  • Since he and his father couldn't find a suitable first snowboard for him, they bought a window display board for $ 10 in a shop in Vancouver.
