Shaun Roger White (born September 3, 1986 in San Diego , California ) is an American snowboarder and skateboarder . He won the gold medal in the halfpipe at the 2006 , 2010 and 2018 Winter Olympics .
biography
White was born with a heart defect. Two operations saved his life.
Snowboard
His career began in 1993 at Windell's Snowboard Camp in Mount Hood, Oregon, where he trained the basics for his later successes.
Shaun White finished third at the Japan Open at age 13 and finished tenth in the Vans Triple Crown of Snowboarding competition. This is how he got his nickname "FutureBoy". He is also the youngest rider to ever win the US Open Snowboarding Championships.
After finishing second in 2002, he was able to win the Air & Style Contest in Seefeld in 2003 and 2004 and at the Honda Session in Vail , Colorado . The winning streak continued: next he won the X-Games in slopestyle and superpipe , as part of the Nippon Open in Japan. He is the first to win the slopestyles of the US Open, the Arctic Challenge and the Nippon Open Halfpipe winner. In addition, at the age of 16 he became world number one in slopestyle. White is the first snowboarder to land "back-to-back" double corks (double rotation around 3 axes on two consecutive jumps) in the halfpipe during a competition.
White has his own clothing line from Burton , to which he has been under contract since he was 13. A new snowboard and boot model appears under his name every year. As a continuation of this, a product line appeared under the name "The White Collection". In November 2004 the film "The White Album" was released, which mainly deals with his person and his career. White has a five year older brother named Jesse who drove for the Burton factory team. He also has a sister who won the US Junior Open in 2000. Although his focus is clearly on the halfpipe and slopestyle , he was won over in 2004 for the film First Descent , in which he conquers mountains in Alaska together with legendary drivers .
In the 2005/06 season, White won practically every competition he took part in (only Terje Håkonsen has done this so far ). In February 2006 he represented the USA at the Olympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy, and won the gold medal in the halfpipe . He also won the 2006/07 season as the overall winner of the Ticket to Ride World Tour.
In 2008 he released his first own video game, Shaun White Snowboarding .
In February 2009, the Austrian beverage manufacturer Red Bull White built a halfpipe from natural snow in the Colorado hinterland, in the Silverton Mountain . He used this halfpipe until the sponsorship contract expired in September 2013; Since October 2013 he has owned a halfpipe built by the camera manufacturer GoPro in Perisher on Mount Kosciuszko in the Australian Perisher Valley .
He was able to repeat the success of Turin by winning the halfpipe at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
In 2012 Shaun White became the first snowboarder to achieve 100 in the SuperPipe category at the Winter X Games Aspen.
At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , he took 4th place in the halfpipe. In 2014 he took over the majority stake in the Air & Style Company.
At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , he was able to win the gold medal again with a strong third run in the halfpipe.
skateboard
He made his skateboard debut in 2003 at the Slam City Jam, finishing fourth in the halfpipe. That qualified him for the X-Games , where he took sixth place in the vert (halfpipe) discipline. Shaun White developed an outwear line that sells jackets and pants. He also created a new helmet in collaboration with "RED" (Burton series for protective clothing) that can be used as both a skateboard and snowboard helmet.
At the Summer X Games in 2006, he tried a 1080 ° multiple times in the Skate Vert discipline, which consists of a triple rotation around its own axis. However, despite several attempts, he was unable to land this trick.
Furthermore, he is a good friend of the famous skateboard rider Tony Hawk , Shaun White who for his own team ( Bird House is committed -Skateboarding) as a driver.
In 2011 he won the gold medal in the vert (halfpipe) discipline at the X Games.
