Kevin Pearce (born November 1, 1987 in Norwich , Vermont ) is a retired American professional snowboarder .

Athletic career

Kevin's first snowboard was buckled into him by Jake Burton, founder of Burton Snowboards . Pearce has been on the board since he was six and has participated in international competitions since 2004.

He is the only driver so far who has won both Air & Style in a row in one season. He won the 2007/08 TTR season as the overall winner with 973.84 points.

injury

On December 31, 2009, Pearce was seriously injured while trying to perfect a new trick, the Cab Double Cork, for the 2010 Winter Olympics . According to his personal website, Pearce was on the mend by July 2010. On December 14, 2011, his sponsor, Burton Snowboards, posted a video on YouTube showing him on his first descent since his injury. In 2013, HBO produced the documentary The Crash Reel . The Fall and Rise of Snowboarder Kevin Pearce , who deals with the accident and the athlete's subsequent convalescence . The film opened in German cinemas in January 2014.

Life and family

Pearce is the youngest of four children in a Vermont snowboard dynasty with close ties to Burton Snowboards. and son of Simon Pearce, a glass blower who owns a chain of stores in the northeastern United States. His maternal uncle is Cyrus Vance, Jr., the District Attorney of New York County ( Manhattan ). Snowboard pioneer Michael McDonald (inter alia producer of the film " The Usual Suspects ") is a good friend of Jake Burton , the founder of Burton Snowboards .

Pearce is a member of FRENDS, a group of professional snowboarders that also includes Danny Davis , Jack Mitrani , Luke Mitrani , Keir Dillon , Mason Aguirre and Scotty Lago .

While it was initially his goal to become active again as a professional athlete, he gave up these plans at the end of December 2011 on medical advice and at the request of his family.

Competition results and achievements

Kevin Pearce won the 2007/2008 Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour ahead of his good friend and athletic rival Shaun White .
