Nate Holland (born November 8, 1978 in Idaho ) is an American snowboarder .
Career
Holland made his international debut in various snowboarding disciplines at FIS races in 1996 and 1997 in various locations in the United States . By 2000 Holland finally specialized in snowboard cross. In February 2000 he started the Continental Cup at Lake Tahoe for the first time and reached the top 10 in seventh place.
On December 11, 2003, Holland made his debut in the Snowboard World Cup in Whistler and immediately achieved a very good result in his first A-class competition, finishing fifth. Just three months later, the American celebrated his first World Cup podium with third place in Jōetsu . It remained his only podium finish until the end of the season. In the overall snowboard cross ranking, he reached 17th place.
In the 2004/05 season started Holland weak with ranks far outside the top 10. In January, he finished with the seventh place at Mount Bachelor , a top-10 result again. After a strong fourth place in Lake Placid , Holland achieved its first World Cup victory in the Spanish Sierra Nevada . After finishing fourth again in Tandådalen , he finished third in the overall snowboard cross ranking.
In September 2005, Holland competed in the South American Cup for the first time in Las Leñas . With fifth place, he also landed in a good top 10 position in snowboard cross. In October he celebrated his second World Cup victory in Saas-Fee . He was also on the podium again in Whistler. Despite the fact that Holland could miss the podium in Bad Gastein in fourth place, he traveled to the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin as one of the medal favorites . At the snowboard cross in Bardonecchia he was 14th but only followed the competition.
At the 2006 International New Zealand Championships in The Remarkables , he secured the title in snowboard cross. He also won gold in the same discipline at the 2006 Winter X Games . At the Snowboard World Championship 2007 in Arosa , which took place a good six months later , Holland won the bronze medal in snowboard cross behind Xavier de Le Rue and Seth Wescott . Four weeks later he finished second at the World Cup in Furano .
At the Winter X Games 2007 , Holland secured its second snowboard cross title in a row. At the end of the season he secured second place at the World Cups in Lake Placid twice. He finished the World Cup season as his best to date, finishing second in the overall snowboard cross standings. In the overall World Cup ranking of all disciplines, he reached 15th place. Holland only made it to the podium again in February 2008 in Sungwoo . At the Winter X Games 2008 in Aspen , Holland secured his third snowboard cross title in a row.
At the Canadian Open Championships in 2008 at Cypress Lake , Holland won the snowboard cross title. A year later at the Snowboard World Championships 2009 in Gangwon-do he clearly missed a medal and only came in 13th. Two weeks later he won the snowboard cross in Boreal in the Nor Am Cup.
Back in the World Cup, he secured good top 10 placements in Cypress and Stoneham and later in La Molina and Valmalenco. Holland secured its third World Cup victory in Bad Gastein.
At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , Holland reached the final of the best four in snowboard cross, but was the last of the final run to just miss a medal. At the following Winter X Games in 2010 , he won the snowboard cross title for the fifth time in a row.
At the beginning of the 2010/11 season he won the World Cup in Lech am Arlberg . A little later he secured his second bronze medal after 2007 at the Snowboard World Championships 2011 in La Molina . In the World Cup he came in eighth place in the overall snowboard cross ranking after mixed results until the end of the season. At the Winter X Games 2011 in Aspen he missed victory for the first time and only crossed the finish line on bronze.
The 2011/12 season went better for Holland . In Veysonnaz , he secured another safe World Cup victory. Three days earlier, he had already finished second on the podium in the same position. After further mediocre results, Holland was third in the overall snowboard cross standings at the end of the season. It was the last success for a long time. Only at the end of the 2012/13 season in Arosa did he achieve another top result with second place.
Although Holland, at 35 years of age in the World Cup, was no longer among the world's best, he qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . There he retired early in the race in Rosa Chutor and was only 25th in the end.
At the 2015 Snowboard World Championships in snowboard cross, he finished fourth in Kreischberg in January .
