Transportation

Amtrak serves Truckee.

There is a free public bus operated by adjacent Placer County. The bus connects Truckees Train Station with the western shore of Lake Tahoe.

In winter there are also ski buses between Reno Airport and the Truckee ski areas. Greyhound travels west from the Amtrak station to Sacramento and San Francisco and east to Reno, Salt Lake City and Denver. There are also privately owned bus companies in the San Francisco Bay Area that take skiers to Truckee.

The Interstate 80 passes through Truckee. In essence, it follows the old emigrant route. Reno is 50 kilometers east on I-80. The north-south running State Route 89 connects Truckee with the western coast of Lake Tahoe.

Truckee-Tahoe Airport provides access to the North Lake Tahoe Recreational Area.
