Lila Lapanja (born December 3, 1994 in Truckee , California ) is an American ski racer who is also a Slovenian citizen. She specializes in the technical disciplines of slalom and giant slalom .

biography

Lila Lapanja was born in Truckee , California in 1994 and grew up in Incline Village on Lake Tahoe , Nevada . She learned to ski at the age of two with the help of her Slovenian father Vojko, a former ski racer, on Diamond Peak. She later attended the Sugar Bowl Ski Academy. In addition to English , Lapanja speaks fluent Slovene and German and is committed to the rescue of the snow leopard .

At the age of 15 she started an FIS race for the first time and took third place. After two successful winters, she was accepted into the US ski team in 2011. She took part in the Junior World Championships twice and in 2014 achieved sixth place in the slalom in Jasná as the best result. In the same season she won the slalom classification in the Nor-Am Cup for the first time . After her first three victories, she won this classification again in the 2015/16 season . In addition, she has already finished second in slalom three times (2014, 2016 and 2017) in the context of US championships.

In February 2015 she was nominated for the World Championship in Vail / Beaver Creek , but decided against participation due to an injury. Lapanja made her World Cup debut on November 28, 2015 in the Aspen slalom . At her third start she won World Cup points for the first time in January 2016, finishing 23rd in Flachau .
