The Association of German Associations for Aquarium and Terrarium Studies founded in 1911 e. V. is the oldest and largest association for aquarists and terrarium owners worldwide. It has around 350 associations with around 10,000 members in the Federal Republic of Germany . The place of foundation and seat of the association is Berlin.
structure
The purpose of the association is, among other things:
- to secure the existence of aquaristics and terrariums through breeding
- to impart aquarium, terrarium and ichthyological knowledge
- to contribute to the conservation of endangered species in accordance with the Washington Convention on the Protection of Species and the laws of the European Union and the Federal Republic of Germany
- active commitment to nature and environmental protection
- Preservation of nature in the diversity of its manifestations
- Promotion of youth work
- Training and examinations to obtain the certificate of competence according to §§ 2 and 11 Animal Welfare Act
"Day of the public aquarium" action day
On the 1st Sunday in November, the VDA has been organizing the "Public Aquarium Day" since 2016. On this day, the association and the clubs affiliated with it want to draw attention to the hobby of aquaristics and the proper keeping and care of aquarium animals.
