biography

Gygax comes from Islisberg in the canton of Aargau . At the age of seven he started doing gymnastics , eight years later he switched to freestyle jumping. After graduating from high school in 2015, he began studying economics at the University of Zurich .

Gygax first played in the European Cup in January 2011. He slowly approached the top and in January 2016 won three European Cup victories in a row, which resulted in first place in the discipline classification of the 2015/16 season. His debut in the Freestyle World Cup took place on February 20, 2016 in Minsk , where he reached 13th place. A week later he achieved his best result at the Junior World Championships (4th place) at the same location. In the 2016/17 World Cup season , he jumped into the top ten twice. Although he could not quite maintain this level in the 2017/18 World Cup season , he qualified for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , where he jumped to 23rd place.

After a somewhat subdued start to the 2018/19 season, Gygax surprisingly won the gold medal in the team competition held for the first time at the 2019 World Championships in Park City (together with Carol Bouvard and Noé Roth ); he received the highest rating of all finalists.
