Benoît Valentin (born December 8, 1992 in Écully ) is a French freestyle skier . He starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Valentin made his debut in the World Cup in January 2008 in Les Contamines and finished 22nd. In the 2010/11 season he achieved his first podium finishes in the World Cup with second place in Kreischberg and La Plagne , thus winning the Halfpipe World Cup. He finished eighth at the 2011 Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Park City . The following season he finished third at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Mammoth . In August 2012 he came third at the New Zealand WinterGames and World Cup in Cardrona and at the New Zealand Freeski Open in Cardrona . In his first Olympic participation in Sochi in 2014 , he was tenth in the first ever halfpipe competition. In March 2014 he took second place at the SFR Tour in Tignes . In the 2014/15 season he took third place at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Copper Mountain and first place at the Canadian Open in Calgary . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season he came third at the New Zealand WinterGames and World Cup in Cardrona . At the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen , he won the bronze medal on the superpipe . In February 2016 she took second place at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Park City and fifth at the X-Games Oslo 2016 . At the end of the season he was third at the World Cup in Tignes and finished eighth in the overall World Cup and third in the Halfpipe World Cup. At the beginning of the following season he won the US Revolution Tour in Copper Mountain and finished second in the World Cup in Copper Mountain. He finished fifth at the Winter X Games 2017 . In February 2017 he came in third place in Pyeongchang and at the end of the season reached 12th place in the overall World Cup and second place in the Halfpipe World Cup. At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2017 in Sierra Nevada he finished eighth in the halfpipe.

Valentin has taken part in 24 World Cup races so far and has been placed in the top ten 17 times (as of the end of the 2016/17 season).
