Johann von Sturm

Johann Nepomuk von Sturm , (born June 3, 1839 in Oberklee near Podersam , † January 14, 1900 in Abbazia , Croatia ) was an Austrian officer, most recently in the rank of major general.

Life

Sturm was born in Oberklee in 1839 as the son of the farmer Emmanuel Sturm and his wife Maria Anna Runtsch. After finishing school, he joined as a cadet in the age of 16 years kk a military service. In 1859 he took part as a second lieutenant in the battles near Valencia and the battles at Magenta and Solferino . In the war against Prussia he was involved in the battle at Königinhof and the Battle of Königgrätz . In 1887 Sturm was given leave of absence due to a prolonged illness, but returned to the 24th Infantry Regiment in 1888. He took over the regiment as commander in 1894. In 1898 he became the commander of the 21st Infantry Brigade and was raised to the nobility by Emperor Franz Joseph I.

Sturm died in Abbazia on January 14, 1900 and was buried in Kaaden on January 20 .
