Lenherr comes from Gams in the canton of St. Gallen . He began his sports career as an alpine ski racer . From 2004 to 2010 he mainly competed in FIS races . As a ski crosser, he started for the first time in Obermaiselstein in the European Cup in January 2012 and finished in 13th place. He completed his first World Cup race in December 2012 in Nakiska , which he finished in 32nd place. In the 2013/14 season he achieved seventh place in the overall ranking of the European Cup with five top ten placements. The following season he finished eighth in Arosa for the first time in the top ten in the World Cup. This was followed by four more top ten placements and, at the end of the season, 13th place in the Skicross World Cup.
In the 2015/16 season , Lenherr achieved a top ten placement five times in 12 World Cup starts and thus achieved ninth place in the Ski Cross WEeltcup. He won his first World Cup on January 17, 2016 at Watles and finished third in Idre . He finished sixth at the Winter X Games 2016 in Aspen . The following year he finished 18th at the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada .
