Olivier Rochon (born July 30, 1989 in Bucharest , Romania ) is a Canadian freestyle skier . He specializes in the aerials (jumping) discipline. His greatest success so far is winning the Aerials World Cup in the 2011/12 season.
Rochon was adopted by a Canadian couple when he was one year old and grew up in the town of Gatineau . He was a gymnast in his youth until he switched sport in 2005 due to a broken wrist. As of March 2005, he participated in the North American continental championship Nor-Am cup, first in the moguls disciplines, contained, before moving to freestyle jump of 2007. Already in his second Nor-Am appearance in this discipline, he achieved his first victory. At the Junior World Championships 2007 in Airolo , he jumped to 5th place.
Rochon made his debut in the Freestyle World Cup on January 27, 2008 in Mont Gabriel , where he immediately won his first World Cup points with 19th place. With four wins he decided the discipline ranking in the Nor-Am Cup for himself in the 2008/09 season. The best World Cup result this season was a 5th place and the FIS honored him as Rookie of the Year . Despite two 6th places in the 2009/10 World Cup season, Rochon missed qualifying for the 2010 Winter Olympics due to strong competition within the team . He had to sit out the entire 2010/11 season as his coaches had suspended him because of repeated disciplinary problems.
In 2012 Rochon returned to the World Cup and achieved his first podium finish with second place in Mont Gabriel. On January 29, 2012, he won his first World Cup victory in Calgary . With three further third places, he secured himself the win of the Aerials discipline ranking. In the following 2012/13 World Cup season, a third place was added. In December 2013 he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee and missed the entire 2013/14 season. In winter 2014/15 he jumped into the top 10 four times, in winter 2015/16 he achieved another podium finish.
