Dorothea Nowak

Dorothea Nowak (born September 12, 1926 near Dresden ; † August 23, 2011 in Hamburg-Schnelsen ) was a German Baptist theologian and lecturer in practical theology at the Theological Seminary of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches and, among other things, co-founder of the Baptist Bible School in Ijuí / Brazil .

Life

Dorothea Nowak was born near Dresden, where she also spent her childhood and youth. After graduating from high school, in the years after the Second World War, she studied literature at the University of Dresden and later at the University of Hamburg Protestant theology for teaching and psychology . From 1951 to 1954 and from 1957 to 1966 she worked as a teacher at the Baptist youth seminar in Hamburg-Horn . In the intervening years she worked as a youth advisor for the Northwest German State Association (today: Baptists in the Northwest ). In 1966 she went to Brazil to set up a theological training center in Ijuí ( Rio Grande do Sul ) on behalf of the Baptist missionary society MASA . In 1970 she was appointed by the Association of Evangelical Free Churches to teach practical theology at the Theological Seminary in Hamburg-Horn, where she shaped "generations of students" until she retired in 1988.

Even as a retired woman, she continued to work as a guest lecturer at the theological seminary. At the same time, she was committed to the theological training of volunteer workers from church communities. With her participation, the theology seminar series for congregations was created .

She spent the last phase of her life in the senior center of the Albertinen-Diakoniewerk in Hamburg-Schnelsen , where she also died. Her grave is in the cemetery in Oldenburg-Eversten.
