Kühnel competed internationally for the first time in February 2016 at the European Cup on the Alpe di Siusi and finished 13th and eighth in Slopestyle. The following month, she made her debut in Silvaplana in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup and achieved 25th place in Slopestyle. In December 2016 in Mönchengladbach she reached eighth place in Big Air, her first top ten place in the World Cup. In February 2017 she won the European Cup in Bischofswiesen in Big Air. The following month she came 25th in Slopestyle at the World Championships in Sierra Nevada and achieved her first podium finish in the World Cup with third place in Big Air in Voss . She finished the season in fifth place in the Big Air World Cup. In the 2017/18 season, she achieved eighth place in the Big Air World Cup with four top ten placements. At the highlight of the season, the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she finished 18th in slopestyle. At the beginning of November 2018 she was third in Big Air at the World Cup in Modena .
