Heidi Zacher (born March 17, 1988 in Bad Tölz ) is a German freestyle skier . She specializes in the discipline of ski cross .
biography
Zacher began her sports career as an alpine skier in January 2004 when she first competed in FIS races at the age of 15 . With victories at two international junior slaloms in early January 2006, she also secured the title of Bavarian youth champion, which was awarded in these competitions. Nevertheless, her international breakthrough did not succeed and she did not get beyond starts at FIS races. In February and March 2007 she became German university champion and shortly thereafter took seventh place in the German giant slalom championships. However, these results did not help her to get a call to the DSV squad, so she did not contest any further races after the end of the 2006/07 season.
In autumn 2008 Zacher returned to international sport, now in the discipline of ski cross. The first participation in the European Cup followed in Grasgehren on December 21st. On January 5th, 2009, she took part in a World Cup race for the first time in St. Johann in Tirol and finished 17th. In the third competition in Flaine , France , she finished tenth. With further top 20 results, Zacher established herself in the World Cup and was nominated for the 2009 World Championships , although she had not even been a member of the national squad the previous fall. In the World Cup race in Inawashiro , she was eliminated in the quarterfinals and finished in 16th position.
In the 2009/10 season, Zacher qualified with two 14th places for the 2010 Olympic competitions in Vancouver . There she drove to 20th place. As third in San Candido on December 19, 2010 she stood for the first time on the podium in a World Cup race. On January 7, 2011, she won her first World Cup at the competition in St. Johann. Thanks to two further podium places, she led the World Cup discipline standings for several weeks, but had to let Anna Holmlund overtake her in the penultimate race . On January 7, 2012 in St. Johann, Zacher broke a lower leg in a fall in the final round and had to end the 2011/12 season early. With three top 10 results, her record in the 2012/13 World Cup winter was a bit mixed, at the 2013 World Championships in Voss she came in 12th.
With a third place in San Candido, Zacher qualified for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi , where she reached 18th place. In the further course of the 2013/14 season she got three top 10 results. Once again, the 2014/15 season was among the top ten with two results. She achieved the best result this winter with fifth place at the 2015 World Championships on Kreischberg . Zacher achieved a significant improvement in the 2015/16 season : She won the race in Innichen and took third place at Watles , which resulted in 6th place in the World Cup discipline.
Zacher was even more successful in the 2016/17 World Cup season . She won twice in Innichen and on the Feldberg . There were also two third places, which resulted in fourth place in the discipline ranking. At the highlight of the season, the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada , she made it to the finals, but just barely missed a medal in fourth. At the beginning of the 2017/18 season , Zacher continued to show excellent performances. She won again in Innichen, added three second and one third place. During training in Idre on January 15, 2018, she tore a cruciate ligament in her left knee and had to end the season.
After finishing seventh in Innichen , Zacher drove to her seventh World Cup victory on January 19, 2019 in Idre Fjäll, Sweden .
