In January 2009 Niederer made it into the top ten for the first time and on March 20, 2009, he finished second in the La Plagne World Cup for the first time on the podium. In the following winter of 2009/10 he could not quite hold this level, which is why he missed the qualification for the 2010 Winter Olympics . In the 2010/11 season he was able to post another podium, at the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley he was ninth. On December 8, 2012, he won his first World Cup victory in Nakiska , and nine days later the second in Val Thorens . In the meantime, Niederer led the World Cup discipline standings, but then had to let Alex Fiva pass. With a total of five podium places, it was still his most successful season. At the 2013 World Cup , he failed in qualifying due to a fall.

Niederer achieved three podium places in the 2013/14 World Cup season , and came 7th at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . Another World Cup podium was added in the 2014/15 season , and he also finished seventh at the 2015 World Cup at Kreischberg . In the 2015/16 season there was another World Cup podium. A victory at Watles , a third place and a total of nine top 10 placings were enough for fifth place in the ski cross discipline of the World Cup in the 2016/17 season .
