Britteny ("Britt") Cox (born September 29, 1994 in Wodonga , Victoria ) is an Australian freestyle skier . She specializes in the mogul slope disciplines moguls and dual moguls. Her greatest successes so far are the Moguls world championship title in 2017 as well as the overall World Cup victory and the discipline ranking in the 2016/17 season.
Cox grew up in Mount Beauty ( Alpine Shire ) in the state of Victoria. She learned to ski at the age of 18 months in the nearby Falls Creek ski resort . When she was eight, she won her first Mughal competition, the Victoria School Championships. She was accepted into the support program of the New South Wales Institute of Sport and initially competed in the European Cup and the Australian New Zealand Cup. She made her debut in the Freestyle World Cup on January 14, 2010 in Deer Valley . Two days later she won her first World Cup points with 29th place.
At 15 years and 138 days, Cox was the youngest participant in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver , in the Moguls competition she reached 23rd place. In the 2010/11 World Cup season , two 18th places were her best results. At the 2011 World Championships in Deer Valley, she was twelfth in the dual moguls competition. After several results in midfield at the beginning of the 2011/12 season, she drove to third place on February 3, 2012 in the Moguls competition in Deer Valley and thus achieved her first World Cup podium. Another third place was added during the 2012/13 season . At the 2013 World Championships in Voss , she was eighth in the Dual Moguls and tenth in the Moguls competition.
In the 2013/14 World Cup season , Cox's best result was fourth. She achieved fifth place at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . In the winter of 2014/15 , she achieved third place in a world cup race. At the 2015 World Championships at Kreischberg , she won the bronze medal in the Moguls competition, while she came fifth in the Dual Moguls. After a rather disappointing 2015/16 season (the best World Cup result was a seventh place), Cox made his breakthrough to the top of the world in winter 2016/17 . In eleven participations in the World Cup, she won seven times and was third twice, with which she won the overall World Cup ranking and the Moguls discipline ranking. At the highlight of the season, the 2017 World Championships in the Sierra Nevada , she won the Moguls gold medal and finished 7th in the Dual Moguls competition.
