Richards made her debut on January 26, 2002 at the World Cup race in Whistler , where she finished ninth. In the following season, 2002/03, she placed seven times in the top ten and narrowly missed a podium finish several times. At the 2003 World Cup in Deer Valley , she came in eighth place. Due to injury, she had to skip the entire 2003/04 season and in the 2004/05 season she did not get beyond a ninth place. On December 18, 2005, she was second in Oberstdorf for the first time on the podium. Three more top 10 results followed, including seventh place at the 2006 Winter Olympics . At the end of the 2005/06 season she won her first Canadian championship title.
On January 13, 2007, Richards was able to win a World Cup event for the first time, the Dual Moguls Race in Deer Valley. During the 2006/07 season, two more podium places were added. In Madonna di Campiglio she won the Moguls gold medal at the 2007 World Cup , where she was able to prevail against Olympic champion Jennifer Heil , among others . In the 2007/08 World Cup season, she stood three times on the podium, while she did not succeed in the 2008/09 season. At the 2009 World Championships in Inawashiro , she came fifth in the Moguls discipline. At the beginning of the 2009/10 season, Richards achieved the second World Cup victory.
The 2010/11 World Cup season began Richards with three third places. She was also third at the 2011 World Cup in Deer Valley in the Moguls competition.
