Marie Martinod (born July 20, 1984 in Bourg-Saint-Maurice ) is a French freestyle skier . She starts in the halfpipe discipline .

Career

Martinod started the Freestyle Skiing World Cup at the beginning of the 2003/04 season in Saas-Fee , which she won. In the further course of the season she also won the World Cup races in Les Contamines and in Bardonecchia and thus achieved second place in the overall World Cup and first place in the Halfpipe World Cup. In 2003 and 2004 she won the US Open. At the Winter X Games 2006 in Aspen she won the bronze medal. After a break of several years, she started again in halfpipe competitions in the 2011/12 season. She won the SFR Freeski Tour in La Plagne in February 2012 . At the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Oslo in 2013 , she finished fifth. In March 2013 she won the gold medal at the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes . At the beginning of the 2013/14 Olympic season, she came third at the World Cup in Copper Mountain . In January 2014 she won the bronze medal at the Winter X Games and took second place at the US Grand Prix in Park City . At the following Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014 , she won the silver medal in the halfpipe competition, which was held for the first time, with 85.4 points. In March 2014 she won the SFR Freeski Tour in Tignes. In the 2015/16 season she took fourth place at the X-Games Oslo 2016 and third place at the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Park City and at the SFR Freestyle Tour and World Cup in Tignes. After she won the US Revolution Tour in Copper Mountain and the US Grand Prix and World Cup in Copper Mountain, she won the gold medal in the superpipe at the Winter X Games 2017 in Aspen . In February 2017 she won the World Cups in Mammoth and Pyeongchang . The following month she was third at the World Cup in Tignes and won the silver medal at the Freestyle Skiing World Championships in Sierra Nevada . She finished the season in fourth place in the overall World Cup and in first place in the Halfpipe World Cup.

In the 2017/18 season, Martinod won the World Cup in Copper Mountain and finished second in Tignes and third in Cardrona , finishing 19th in the overall World Cup and fifth in the Halfpipe World Cup. In January 2018 she was fourth at the Winter X Games in Aspen. At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang , she won the silver medal in the halfpipe.
